When your child is ready for the transition from cot to junior bed this may be the ideal time to revamp their bedroom in an effort to make it a special event which can help your child to understand that they are moving on from their baby things and going on to a more exciting grown up world. Allowing them some say in either the theme or the contents of the new room will make them feel like they have some control over the changes that are taking place and hopefully they will feel less panicky about losing the familiar comfort of their cot.

There is a wealth of choice when it comes to redecorating your toddlers bedroom. You can go for their favourite TV or film characters, such as Disney Princesses, Toy Story or Peppa Pig, or choose generic themes, such as pirates and fairies.

Depending on your budget you can stuff the bedroom with character merchandise or simply paint the walls a plain accent colour and choose a few themed accent pieces to build the room around. Wall stickers and Stikarounds are a brilliant way of brightening up a wall with out having to re paint it plus they have the advantage of being easily removable when it's time for a change.

It's worth checking out which TV and film character ranges have toddler beds and bedding included before you get your heart set on a particular one just in case you can't get hold of the things you need but most of the popular favourites have plenty of merchandise to choose from. If you can't buy a bed in your chosen theme then go for a plain bed frame and use children's character bedding.

If your child is desperate for a theme which doesn't have much available to buy then pick out an accent colour from the pieces you can find and buy curtains, rugs, cushions and accessories in that colour. As an example Thomas The Tank Engine works well with blue or red and Hello Kitty with pink.

Keep in mind that your toddler's bedroom should be a relaxing place to sleep and try not to over do it but remember that your aim is to make the tranisition from cot to grown up bed smooth and straight forward so involve your toddler and get them excited about the changes that are about to happen.
